Nigeria and Benin have agreed to a Framework for Enhanced Economic Cooperation to boost bilateral trade and regional integration.

The agreement, signed during the West Africa Economic Summit 2025 in Abuja, was witnessed by their presidents and focuses on trade in goods and services, customs procedures, and legal issues.

Nigerian and Beninese officials emphasized that the framework aligns with regional and continental trade policies and aims to facilitate structured cooperation, reduce trade barriers, and promote investment.

Additionally, Negotiations for a detailed Memorandum of Understanding are set to begin later in 2025, with completion expected in early 2026. So far, this move supports Nigeria’s broader efforts to deepen regional integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
