Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has announced that there are no confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Nigeria. This reassurance comes amid reports of a new Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. Jide Idris,
stated in a public health advisory issued in Abuja that Nigeria remains on high alert, with enhanced surveillance at entry points, healthcare facilities, and within communities.
While there are currently no Ebola cases in Nigeria, the country has intensified preparedness measures, including infection control protocols, border screenings, and community risk communication, to prevent importation and transmission. Idris further highlighted that the DRC has activated its Public Health Emergency Operations Centre and deployed a rapid response team, with support from the World Health Organization (WHO), to contain the outbreak effectively.
He also noted that the Ebola Zaire strain identified has an approved vaccine, Ervebo, which has been proven effective in controlling outbreaks and protecting vulnerable populations in affected regions.
