Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar has stated that Nigeria will not accept Venezuelan deportees from the U.S, citing the country’s existing challenges and large population of 230 million.
This follows pressure from the Trump administration amid a crackdown on undocumented migrants. Tuggar also addressed US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose a 10% trade tariff on BRICS nations, including Nigeria, suggesting it may not be linked to Nigeria’s participation in the BRICS Summit held in Rio de Janeiro from July 6-7, 2025.
Additionally, Nigeria a BRICS+ partner country since January 2025, is also engaging with the U.S on new visa restrictions and expressed regret over similar restrictions by the UAE.
