The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has given the Federal Government a four-week ultimatum to conclude negotiations with all tertiary institution unions, warning of a possible nationwide strike if talks remain unresolved.
NLC President Joe Ajaero issued the warning on Monday in Abuja after a meeting with leaders of university-based unions, including Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) , Ajaero also criticised the government’s no-work-no-pay policy against ASUU members, calling it unfair and counterproductive. He warned that the NLC would now adopt a “no pay, no work” stance, arguing that most strikes result from the government’s failure to honour agreements.
He said if the government fails to act within four weeks, the NLC’s National Executive Council would meet to decide on a mass action involving all workers and unions nationwide.
