Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to halt its plans to increase the remuneration of political officeholders.
Recall the RMAFC recently revealed that President Bola Tinubu earns ₦1.5 million monthly and ministers less than ₦1 million, figures unchanged since 2008, which the commission considers wrong.
However, NLC President Joe Ajaero has criticized the move as insensitive and unjust, warning it would worsen inequality and deepen poverty among Nigerians. He further called for transparency about current earnings and the basis for the proposed review, warning that proceeding could trigger widespread unrest and increase poverty levels.
