Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) reported that 12 out of 583 passengers were injured in the derailment of an Asham train in Abuja. The investigation is led by an Investigator-in-Charge, with efforts underway to secure evidence and determine the cause. The NSIB highlighted the need for increased funding to improve investigation capacity. The final report is expected within 30 days. The derailment occurred last Tuesday along the Kaduna corridor shortly after leaving Abuja, causing chaos among passengers. In response, the Nigerian Railway Corporation suspended train services on the route, and investigations involving relevant agencies are ongoing. NRC has also initiated refunds for affected passengers.
