National Youth Service Corp NYSC, has dismissed social media reports claiming that a corp member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, was denied her Certificate of National Service over critical comments about the government.

The scheme clarified that her certificate was withheld for disciplinary reasons, specifically due to her failure to attend the April 2025 biometric clearance, which led to a two-month extension of her service— a standard and non-political sanction.

NYSC emphasized that she is among 131 corps members with withheld certificates for various infractions and stressed that such extensions are routine and applied equally. The scheme however, has urged the public to view the matter objectively, reaffirming its commitment to fairness, discipline, and serving Nigeria.

Meanwhile,

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have criticized the NYSC over withholding the discharge certificate of Lagos youth corps member Ushie Uguamaye (Raye). Falana called the action overzealous and illegal, citing past abuses of NYSC authority, while Atiku condemned it as impunity.

Both emphasized that Uguamaye’s right to criticize the government is protected by the Nigerian Constitution and urged the NYSC to release her certificate promptly. Atiku questioned whether her criticism of the current administration was the reason for the withholding, condemning the move as politically motivated.
