Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Africa’s youth to be “positively disruptive” and assume leadership roles, emphasizing that they are not just the leaders of tomorrow but of today.

Speaking at the Presidential Youth Mentorship Retreat at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Obasanjo stressed that young people must leverage their numbers to drive transformation across the continent and challenged older politicians who dominate leadership despite laws like Not Too Young To Run.

Retired Gen. Martin Luther Agwai, former Chief of Defence Staff, also addressed the retreat, warning that external threats, including U.S. President Donald Trump’s “guns-a-blazing” threat over alleged killings of Christians in Nigeria, should serve as a wake-up call for Nigerians to take responsibility for national security. Agwai stressed that foreign intervention alone cannot change the country unless Nigerians are willing to address internal challenges through dialogue, justice, and unity.
