Tanzanian authorities are under growing criticism over post-election violence and killings, with the opposition accusing security forces of secretly dumping hundreds of bodies.

Recall Protests erupted across the country after President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s landslide victory, which was marred by low turnout and the disqualification of main rivals.

While Human Rights Watch condemned the use of lethal force against protesters, citing reports of point-blank shootings, the government is yet to confirm  death tolls.

Additionally, Opposition leader Brenda Rupia has claimed at least 400 deaths, with others suggesting the death toll could be over a thousand, and alleged report of security forces hiding bodies. Hassan has however, urged a return to normalcy, with authorities warning against sharing disturbing images, resulting in internet restrictions.
