Controversy over Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension deepened as the Peoples Democratic Party and senior lawyers criticized the Senate’s decision to prevent her from returning when the Senate reconvenes on September 23.

This is according to the National Assembly stating that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central cannot resume her seat despite completing her six-month suspension.

In a letter dated September 4, 2025, the Senate confirmed her notification of return but emphasized that her suspension remains in effect while a Court of Appeal case she initiated against the Senate is ongoing.

The Senate clarified that no administrative action can be taken until the court proceedings are concluded, as her suspension, which began on March 6, 2025, is still pending judicial resolution.
