Spanish police have concluded that Liverpool and Portugal star Diogo Jota was likely speeding when his car veered off a motorway in Spain last week, leading to his death and that of his brother, Andre Silva.

The investigation suggests the vehicle may have been exceeding the speed limit, possibly due to a tyre blowout while overtaking.

Recall Jota, 28, had recently married and posted about his wedding shortly before the accident, which has caused widespread mourning in Portugal and among Liverpool fans. Jota, who joined Liverpool in 2020, was a celebrated player with numerous achievements, including 65 goals for the club and participating in Portugal’s UEFA Nations League victory. His younger brother Andre played in Portugal’s second division.
