Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu Bayo Onanuga has criticized Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, for pledging to serve only one term if elected in 2027, calling his references to Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and Nelson Mandela inaccurate.

Onanuga clarified that Lincoln was assassinated during his second term, Kennedy didn’t complete his first term due to assassination, and Mandela chose not to run again due to age, not a campaign promise. Onanuga suggested Mandela’s example suits Obi’s older rival. While Obi hasn’t formally declared his 2027 candidacy but his pledge has sparked political speculation.
