President Bola Tinubu has honored Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for their fifth consecutive AfroBasket title win (78–64 against Mali) with $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for each of the 11 coaching and technical staff, and a three-bedroom flat at the Renewed Hope Estate for all team members and staff.

They were also conferred the Officer of the Order of the Niger honor. Vice President Kashim Shettima announced these rewards at a State House reception in Abuja, attended by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Nana Shettima, and other dignitaries.

Tinubu praised the team’s unity, resilience, and coach Rena Wakama’s leadership, noting their qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup pre-qualifying tournament. He highlighted the role of sports in national development and commended the National Sports Commission and Nigerian Basketball Federation for their contributions.
