President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of at least 26 persons who lost their lives in a boat accident on the River Niger in Ibaji LGA, Kogi State, while travelling to Ilushi Market in Edo State.
In a statement by his aide Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the incident as shocking and unfortunate, praising first responders and directing federal, state, and local emergency agencies to assist survivors.
He also urged water transport operators to prioritise safety over profit, while praying for the repose of the victims’ souls and the quick recovery of the injured.
meanwhile The Kogi State Government earlier confirmed the accident and expressed deep sadness over the tragedy.
