President Bola Tinubu has implemented a 6-month temporary ban on raw shea nut exports to promote local processing and strengthen Nigeria’s shea industry, aiming to generate $300 million annually in the short term.
Announced by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the policy focuses on value addition, job creation, and rural transformation, particularly empowering women.
The ban, effective immediately, seeks to shift Nigeria from exporting raw shea nuts to supplying refined products like shea butter and oil, targeting a 10-fold revenue increase by 2027.
