President Bola Tinubu has sent peace envoy Dr. Abiodun Essiet to Plateau State to help restore calm and promote inter-communal harmony amid ongoing violence.

During her two-day visit, Essiet met with religious leaders, Fulani community representatives, youth groups, and traditional rulers, culminating in a town hall in Jos to discuss strengthening community peace efforts. She also engaged faith-based leaders, fostered dialogue between pastoral and farming communities, and trained stakeholders on establishing peace structures.

The visit followed recent attacks and conflicts in the area, including a resolved dispute involving cattle and crop damage. Essiet’s efforts aim to sustain dialogue and implement community-based peace mechanisms, as Plateau has experienced decades of cyclical violence. The presidency also plans ongoing monitoring and further outreach to maintain stability.
