Russian President Vladimir Putin have  scheduled to visit India in December 2025, as announced by the Kremlin, to strengthen ties with New Delhi amid growing relations and U.S. tariffs on India for purchasing Russian oil.

The tariffs, imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, aim to pressure Moscow to end its offensive in Ukraine by targeting Russia’s energy revenue, a key budget source. Putin will also meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a regional summit in China to prepare for the visit.

Russia, a major arms supplier to India, has redirected energy exports to India and China since Western sanctions followed its 2022 Ukraine invasion. India, not a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is not required to enforce an arrest warrant against Putin for his role in the conflict.
