Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has announced that many rural communities in Nigeria now have stable electricity from completed mini-grid projects, with some residents paying higher tariffs than Band A customers—up to N250 or N280—depending on infrastructure costs.

Managing Director Abba Aliyu explained that the tariff varies based on the infrastructure deployed and that rural residents are willing to pay for reliable power.

He further highlighted the success of solar energy as a sustainable solution and noted that the agency has completed numerous mini-grids for institutions like universities and hospitals across Nigeria’s six zones.
