Senate has directed National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) NAFDAC and other regulatory bodies to strictly enforce the ban on packaging high-strength alcoholic beverages in sachet formats starting December 2025, with no further extensions allowed.
This decision follows a motion highlighting concerns over health and social issues, including youth addiction and road accidents, linked to sachet alcohol.
Despite a previous phased ban and a one-year moratorium in 2024, some manufacturers continue to lobby for delays, undermining regulation. The Senate also urged the Federal Ministry of Health to remove obstacles to enforcement and to expedite the release of the National Alcohol Policy, which should prohibit sachet packaging and promote public awareness.
