Reports say Despite increased refining capacity, Nigeria has imported nearly 69% of its 21 billion liters of petrol between August 2024 and October 2025, with about 15.01 billion liters imported during this period, even after the Dangote refinery began production in September 2024.
It was further noted that Domestic refining contributed 31% of supply, with local production rising from 6.43 million liters per day in September 2024 to around 20 million liters per day in later months, reaching an average of 18.93 million liters per day in October 2025.
Also, Imports peaked in September 2024 but steadily declined as Dangote’s local production increased, reducing reliance on imports, despite competition and accusations from importers.
