US Congressman Riley Moore says the United States and Nigeria are close to finalising a strategic security framework aimed at combating terrorism and violent extremism in Nigeria. The proposed agreement would target Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) ISIS and Boko Haram in the North-East and address violence in the Middle Belt, which Moore described as attacks on Christians.

Moore made the remarks after leading a US congressional fact-finding mission to Nigeria, where he met with senior government officials, including the National Security Adviser and Attorney General, as well as state governors, religious, and traditional leaders in Benue and Plateau states. He said discussions with Nigerian authorities were positive and expressed optimism about progress.

He plans to submit a report to President Donald Trump outlining ways for the US to work with Nigeria to curb extremism and protect civilians, citing the severe humanitarian impact he witnessed during the visit.
