Saudi Arabia has set a new record for executions in a single year, carrying out 340 executions so far, surpassing the 338 recorded in 2024, The latest executions involved three individuals put to death in the Mecca region for murder.
Most of the executions in 2025 are linked to drug-related offenses, reflecting the kingdom’s intensified “war on drugs” launched in 2023. Saudi Arabia resumed executions for narcotics crimes in late 2022 after a three-year pause.
The crackdown has included increased checkpoints and border controls, with foreigners making up a large proportion of those executed
