House of Representatives has resolved to step down all bills transmitted from the Senate for concurrence due to the Senate’s consistent failure to act on over 140 House-originated bills.

This decision followed heated debates during a plenary session, sparked by a motion from Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda regarding a Senate bill to amend the Federal Orthopaedic Hospital Management Act.

Lawmakers, including Chinda, Awaji-Iniombek Abiante, Ahmed Jaha, and Ahmed Satome, expressed frustration over the Senate’s uncooperative stance, citing delays or neglect of House bills, some pending since 2024.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas further noted 146 bills awaiting Senate action, including 10 of his own, and called the situation worrisome. The House however, agreed to halt consideration of Senate bills until assurances are received on the concurrence of House bills, with Chinda ultimately moving to step down a Senate bill to push for a resolution with Senate leadership.
