Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland has sentenced pro-Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa to six years in prison for terrorism-related offenses.
Ekpa was found guilty of inciting terrorism and participating in a terrorist group, using his social media following to stir tensions in southeastern Nigeria from August 2021 to November 2024.
The court also convicted him of aggravated tax fraud. It stated that Ekpa was an influential member of a separatist movement aiming to establish Biafra, and that he supplied weapons and explosives to militants, encouraging crimes in Nigeria via social media. Ekpa, a resident of Lahti and former local councillor, committed these acts from Finland, which gave the Finnish court jurisdiction. He has however, denied every charge levelled on him.
