Abia State Government has dismissed six officers from the Ministry of Justice following an internal audit that revealed they manipulated payroll systems to receive excess salaries.
The affected officials included accountants and executive officers, and the disciplinary action was based on a thorough investigation that found they knowingly benefited from irregular payments.
One officer, Mrs. Chioma Favour Madu, was cleared after reporting the overpayment and acting to correct it. The investigation also raised concerns about potential involvement of some Salary Committee members, prompting a separate probe. The government emphasized its commitment to transparency and zero tolerance for corruption, stating those indicted will be handed over for prosecution.
