In Madagascar’s capital, Antananarivo, soldiers from the unit that initially helped President Andriy Rajoelina seize power have joined protesters against him, urging disobedience to their commanders.
The soldiers escorted young protesters to May 13 square, amid escalating unrest sparked by frustrations over utility shortages.
While Madagascar’s president Andry Rajoelina has condemned the protests as an attempted coup, he has called on the military to uphold the constitution, marking a significant challenge to Rajoelina’s leadership.
