Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the seventh FIFA World Cup has been dashed after a 1-1 draw with South Africa at Bloemfontein.

The Super Eagles needed a win to boost their chances but settled for a point, leaving them six points behind group leaders South Africa.

While Nigeria opened the scoring through an own goal by captain Williams Troost-Ekong it conceded early due to injuries and a fortuitous equalizer from Calvin Bassey. However, Despite multiple substitutions and efforts to find a winner, Nigeria couldn’t break the deadlock. With only two matches remaining, Nigeria must win both and rely on other results to advance, making qualification unlikely.
