The Taraba State House of Assembly has approved a ₦653.5 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year, just three weeks after its presentation by the state government.
Speaker John Bonzena praised lawmakers and the Appropriations Committee for their swift and thorough work, noting that Taraba is the first state in Nigeria to pass its 2026 budget.
Bonzena said the early approval would aid effective governance and urged legislative committees to strengthen oversight to ensure proper budget implementation. He also criticized some ministry and agency heads for failing to defend their budget proposals before the Assembly
