Police in Nairobi have blocked major roads into the city ahead of planned anti-government protests, preventing vehicles and pedestrians from accessing the city center. Authorities used tear gas and water cannons to disperse crowds.

The demonstrations aimed to protest police brutality, poor governance, corruption, and the high cost of living, coinciding with the anniversary of Kenya’s historic protests 35 years ago.

Since President Ruto took office, Nairobi has experienced violent protests, including anti-tax demonstrations and protests over police brutality. Recall Ruto campaigned to empower the working class but has faced criticism for introducing new taxes, cutting fuel subsidies, and failing to address police violence.
