Trinidad and Tobago High Court has ruled that former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner will not be extradited to the United States, where he faced charges of racketeering, wire fraud, money laundering, and bribery linked to the 2015 FIFA corruption scandal.
Judge Karen Reid found that the extradition agreement between the two countries was flawed, permanently halting proceedings after a 10-year legal battle.
Warner, 82, had been on $370,000 bail while contesting the case. He was banned for life by FIFA in 2015 and accused of profiting from his positions, including involvement in the 2010 World Cup bribery scheme and votes awarding Russia and Qatar the 2018 and 2022 tournaments.
After the ruling, Warner said nothing could erase the “pain and humiliation” he endured over the past decade.
