President Donald Trump has issued an executive order imposing a 15% import tariff on Nigeria and several other African countries, effective August 1, as part of a revised reciprocal tariff policy.

This followed a 14% tariff on Nigerian exports in April, which was postponed for 90 days to allow trade agreement negotiations. Most negotiations failed, leading to the implementation of higher tariffs.

Additionally, Trump imposed travel restrictions on several African nations, including Nigeria in mid-June, further straining relations. The US failed to secure any trade deals with African countries. The 15% tariff also applies to countries like Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, and others, while some nations face even higher tariffs under Trump’s global trade framework.
