US House Subcommittee on Africa will hold an open hearing on November 20, 2025, to discuss President Trump’s recent designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) for religious freedom violations.
If approved by the Senate, this designation could lead to sanctions on Nigerian officials involved in religious persecution and restrict certain US aid.
The hearing will evaluate religious persecution in Nigeria, possible policy responses such as sanctions and humanitarian aid, and collaboration with Nigerian authorities. It will further feature US State Department officials and Nigerian religious leaders as witnesses.
