US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have held a second phone call since Trump’s return to office, discussing key issues including a potential deal to transfer control of TikTok’s US operations to American investors. Trump praised the talks as “very productive” and announced plans to meet Xi at an Asia-Pacific summit in South Korea next month, as well as his own visit to China next year as Xi is also expected to visit the US at an unspecified time.
China emphasized the need for negotiations based on market rules and compliance with Chinese laws, calling for a fair business environment for Chinese companies in the US.
The TikTok deal aims to address US national security concerns about data privacy and Chinese influence. Reports suggest a consortium including Oracle and investment funds may take control of TikTok’s US business.
