United Arab Emirates  has initiated a  construction of a 7-kilometer pipeline to transport desalinated water from Egypt to southern Gaza to address the region’s severe water crisis.

The pipeline expected to supply water to about 600,000 people daily, connects an Egyptian desalination plant to Gaza’s Al-Mawasi area. The project, supported by UAE technical teams and equipment, is expected to take weeks to complete according to COGAT, Israel’s defense ministry body.

Over 80% of Gaza’s water infrastructure has been damaged in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, leaving 2.4 million residents reliant on polluted wells or limited aid deliveries. The UN has also highlighted a worsening humanitarian crisis, with fuel shortages and damaged infrastructure exacerbating water scarcity.
