UK government is actively warning international students via texts and emails to leave the country when their visas expire, amid concerns about students overstaying and claiming asylum to remain.

This is part of a new campaign addressing an increase in such cases, with around 16,000 asylum applications last year from individuals who originally arrived on student visas.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has highlighted concerns that some students claim asylum without genuine reasons, prompting the government to take immediate action.
