Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced his intention to raise the issue of Russian oil imports to Europe during his upcoming talks with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

Fico, known for his frequent criticism of Zelensky and who met Russian President Vladimir Putin in China earlier this week, is scheduled to arrive later in the day in Uzhgorod, western Ukraine.

While the European Union has imposed a ban on most Russian oil imports in response to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, Slovakia and Hungary have been temporarily exempted to allow them time to secure alternative supplies. This exemption has caused tensions between Bratislava and Kyiv, especially given Kyiv’s ongoing efforts to target the Druzhba pipeline, which carries Russian oil to these landlocked EU nations.
