Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has received the unity torch on Friday at Government House, Uyo, ahead of the State Sports Festival set for September 8–13, 2025.
Eno described the festival as a key platform for nurturing sporting talent and promoting youth development, emphasizing sports as a multi-billion-dollar industry capable of producing global stars and boosting the state’s economy. He announced the purchase of modern sports equipment, the first in 14 years, and revealed that the festival will serve as a recruitment base for a new sports academy.
The festival’s theme, “Nurturing talents, promoting tourism,” aligns with goals to enhance youth development, economic growth, and tourism, leveraging infrastructure like the ARISE Resort and Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
