UNICEF has identified Rubella Measles as a major cause of birth defects, including hearing impairment, cataracts, and blindness, if left untreated.

During a training workshop for media, health educators, and workers on the upcoming Measles Rubella vaccination starting in October 2025, UNICEF emphasized the need to intensify awareness, especially among pregnant women.

UNICEF Niger State Lead, Grace Odeyemi,

highlighted that this is the first introduction of the Rubella Measles vaccine in Nigeria, despite its long global presence.
