Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko has won the National Bank Open in Montreal, overcoming a wrist injury and a one-set deficit to defeat former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the final.

 

The 18-year-old, who rose from outside the top 300 to 25th in the world, claimed her first Women’s Tennis Associations title, joining a select group of Canadians to win their home event. The match was highly energetic, with a packed crowd cheering loudly.

 

During the event, Mboko saved four break points in a key moment of the third set and celebrated enthusiastically after match point.
