World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a strong call for nations and health partners to intensify efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis, especially following the reclassification of hepatitis D as carcinogenic to humans.

This reclassification underscores hepatitis D’s significantly higher risk of causing liver cancer compared to hepatitis B alone, emphasizing the urgency for increased awareness, screening, and access to treatment.

While cures exist for hepatitis C and management strategies for hepatitis B, treatment options for hepatitis D remain limited, necessitating expanded vaccination, testing, harm reduction, and integrated healthcare services.
