Report says Suspected Ebola cases in Congo has risen from 28 to 68 over recent days, with four districts affected and 16 deaths reported. This is Congo’s first outbreak in three years and the first in Kasai province in over a decade.

The remote Kasai region faces challenges due to poor infrastructure and ongoing conflict in eastern Congo, which may hinder containment efforts. The outbreak was initially identified after a pregnant woman was infected in Bulapé. The WHO and Congo’s Rapid Response Team are deploying experts to improve surveillance, treatment, and prevention.

Historically, Congo has experienced multiple Ebola outbreaks since 1976, with the current one being the 16th and the 7th in Kasai. Local authorities are implementing measures like curfews and checkpoints to control the spread, while residents express concern over disease impact and resource limitations. Despite some hope from early treatment progress, the situation remains precarious.
