‎ China’s top internet regulator has announced a two-month crackdown on social media platforms to combat harmful content, including incitement of conflict, violence, and negative attitudes like world-weariness.

The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) mandates stricter content moderation to prevent subversive, vulgar, or harmful posts.

This follows recent penalties against platforms like Weibo, Kuaishou, and Xiaohongshu for inadequate content management. The campaign targets issues such as exploiting social hot spots to promote discrimination, spreading rumors about the economy and social issues, and amplifying negative outlooks on life, including the culture of “letting it rot.” The goal generally is to create a more civilized and rational online environment.
