Seychelles’ presidential election has ended without a clear winner, prompting a rerun between the top two candidates. Opposition candidate Patrick Herminie received 48.8% of the vote, while incumbent Wavel Ramkalawan got 46.4%, both below the 50% needed for victory.
The date for the rerun has not been announced. Herminie, from the historically dominant United Seychelles party, aims to regain power, while Ramkalawan, seeking a second term, campaigned on economic and social progress. Early voting took place last week. Seychelles, known for luxury and environmental tourism, is Africa’s richest country per capita.
