Nigerian Senate has established a 12-member ad-hoc committee to advise on responding to international concerns about alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria.
This decision was made during a closed session following claims by the U.S. suggesting possible genocide targeting Christians.
While the committee will prepare a position paper to guide Nigeria’s legislative stance and international engagement, emphasizing verifiable facts, the Senate further plans to engage with the U.S. Congress to counter misleading narratives about Nigeria’s security challenges, with discussions on directly engaging American lawmakers to clarify the situation and protect Nigeria’s image.
