Senate has initiated the process of amending the nation’s Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, with the bill passing its first reading during today’s plenary session.
Sponsored by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, the bill follows recent resolutions made just 24 hours earlier, during a tense debate on national insecurity, where senators agreed on the need to classify kidnapping as terrorism punishable by the death penalty.
The introduction of this amendment aims to strengthen the legal framework and impose harsher penalties on kidnappers in response to growing security concerns nationwide.
