Abia State Governor Alex Otti has distanced himself from Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma’s claim that all five South-East governors have agreed to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Otti clarified on Thursday during his media chat that Uzodimma’s statement was his personal opinion and did not represent the views of all governors in the region. He emphasized that the decision on who becomes president in 2027 would ultimately be determined by Nigerians through voting.
Otti, a member of the Labour Party, stated that his party would field its own presidential candidates and support them, and he expressed no opposition to President Tinubu seeking a second term, asserting that the constitution grants him that right. He also reiterated support for some federal economic policies, including the removal of petrol subsidy, which he argued encourages corruption.
