Accord party has petitioned President Bola Tinubu, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and other key stakeholders over alleged harassment, intimidation, and arrests of its members and government officials by police ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
The party called for the immediate removal of Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, accusing him of partisanship that could undermine the election’s credibility. In a statement on Thursday, Accord’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, reported that about 100 of its members, supporters, and candidates had been detained across the state, with some transferred to Abuja.
Mgbudem condemned the police actions as an assault on Nigeria’s democracy and warned they could jeopardize the integrity of the upcoming election. He also noted that previous complaints about attacks on their campaign activities had been ignored.
