Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reverted to selling petrol in naira after allegedly observing that importers were withholding their stocks in anticipation of higher prices.

According to reports, the decision was not due to a resolved crude oil shortage but was aimed at preventing fuel scarcity and price hikes in Nigeria. Recall the refinery recently resumed naira-based petrol sales, ending its brief dollar-denominated pricing regime, which had caused concern in the downstream sector and prompted government intervention.

The move came amid reports that independent marketers suspended petrol loading from the refinery, citing difficulties in sourcing foreign exchange.
