Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced three suspects to life imprisonment for their involvement in the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The suspects Abdulrazak Umar, Yunusa Musa, and Shamsu Adamu Sani—were convicted after pleading guilty to charges of terrorism, kidnapping, and concealing information related to the crime. The court, presided over by Justice Salim Ibrahim, stated that the sentences would commence from their arrest date.
Defense counsel appealed for leniency, citing the suspects’ first-time offenses, remorse, and family responsibilities, but the prosecution argued that they knowingly participated in terrorist activities. The defendants, all from Niger State, faced a 10-count charge and admitted to membership of a banned terrorist group and involvement in kidnapping and planning.
