The Rural Electrification Agency says 15 universities across Nigeria now have stable electricity following the completion of solar power projects.
REA Managing Director, Abba Aliyu, said the projects were delivered under the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up, DARES, initiative, which aims to expand electricity access through renewable energy. He said the programme is expected to provide electricity to about 17.5 million Nigerians, while more than 1,000 mini-grids are being deployed nationwide.
Aliyu also disclosed that 48 interconnected mini-grid projects are being implemented with electricity distribution companies to improve power supply in underserved communities.
